Iran aims to further constructive work with Turkmenistan in the fields of energy, transport, water resources and other areas. This was stated by the President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian at a meeting on February 12 with the Turkmen delegation headed by Vice-Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of our country reports.
During the audience, Rashid Meredov conveyed to the President of Iran warm greetings and best wishes from the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed gratitude to the Turkmen side for the kind words and expressed reciprocal greetings to the leadership of Turkmenistan.
Having emphasized the noticeable intensification of Iranian-Turkmen relations, Masoud Pezeshkian noted the importance of the telephone conversation with the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan on February 10, during which important issues of bilateral cooperation in the political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres were discussed.
In this regard, Masoud Pezeshkian voiced Iran's focus on further constructive work with Turkmenistan in the fields of energy, transport, water resources and other areas, the Foreign Ministry noted.
During the meeting, the parties noted the importance of joint events in 2025, which was declared the International Year of Peace and Trust in Turkmenistan.
On the same day, political consultations were held between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and Iran. The Turkmen side was headed by Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, and the Iranian side was headed by Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi.
During the consultations, the parties exchanged views on bilateral partnership in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields. As noted, it is the regular and trusting dialogue at the highest political level that contributes to the further strengthening of good-neighborly relations.
A separate topic of discussion was trade and economic cooperation. In this regard, the indicators of bilateral trade turnover were considered, the fuel, energy and transport sectors were named among the priorities, and the leading role of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was noted.
Noting the importance of the International Year of Peace and Trust, the delegations discussed the possibilities of increasing Turkmen-Iranian cooperation to strengthen international peace, stability and sustainable development. In this regard, the importance of partnership within the UN, as well as other international and regional structures, in particular the ECO and OIC, was emphasized. In this regard, a review of the international and regional agenda was also held. Having emphasized the importance of interparliamentary relations, the parties noted the successful work of the interparliamentary friendship group of the two countries and discussed upcoming events in this area. In accordance with the instructions of the top leadership, the parties outlined further steps to implement the tasks set, including in the field of water resources management. The possibilities of strengthening ties in the areas of science, education, healthcare and sports were considered.
