A wide range of issues of bilateral partnership were discussed in Ashgabat at a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Liu Bin. This was reported on January 15 by the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, the parties discussed a wide range of issues of effectively developing bilateral partnership, which is comprehensive strategic and long-term in nature. Favorable conditions for building up interstate relations create a high level of trust and friendship between the heads of the two states, the Foreign Ministry notes.

Successful cooperation between Turkmenistan and China within the framework of international and regional structures, primarily within the UN, was noted. It was emphasized that great importance is attached to the interstate dialogue in the «Central Asia – China» format. Along with this, inter-parliamentary and inter-party ties are being intensified, and interregional cooperation has also received a new effective impetus.

The diplomats noted the effective partnership in the trade and economic sphere, analyzed the progress of joint activities in the field of energy, transport and communications connectivity, and cultural and humanitarian areas. The parties expressed their readiness to continue effective relations that meet the national interests and development priorities of the two friendly countries and peoples.

On the same day, political consultations were held between the foreign ministries of the two countries. During the talks, the topic of the participation of the Chinese side in the planned high-level events within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust was touched upon.

The issues of implementing the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Foreign Ministries of Turkmenistan and China for 2025-2026, signed in November 2024 in Chengdu, were also considered.

As noted, an important mechanism for the Turkmen-Chinese dialogue is the activity of the Turkmen-Chinese Intergovernmental Committee on Cooperation.

Special attention was paid to the expansion of trade and economic ties. As emphasized, China has been Turkmenistan's largest foreign economic partner for many years.
