Turkmenistan and Afghanistan Sign Cooperation Documents in the Energy and Transport Sectors in Ashgabat

On August 30, a series of cooperation agreements in the energy and transport sectors were signed following a meeting between delegations from Turkmenistan and Afghanistan in Ashgabat, according to TDH.

The meeting took place in the large conference hall of the "Garagum" hotel in the capital, where the delegations held extended discussions. The result was the signing of several documents of mutual interest.

Notably, an agreement was signed between the joint-stock company "TAPI Pipeline Company Limited" and the Afghan government regarding the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project. 

Additionally, the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan and the Afghan state company "Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat" signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan power transmission line project.

A Memorandum of Understanding was also signed between the "Turkmendemiryollary" Agency of the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Public Works of Afghanistan concerning cooperation on the construction of facilities at the Turgundi railway station.

Moreover, a Work Plan for the 22-kilometer section of the Turgundi-Sanabar railway, part of the Turgundi-Herat railway construction project, was signed between the "Turkmendemiryollary" Agency and the Afghan Ministry of Public Works.

The meeting saw the participation of several Vice-Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, along with heads of various ministries and departments. The Afghan delegation was led by the Acting Minister of Mining and Petroleum, Hussein Badri.

During the discussions, both sides emphasized the positive dynamics in expanding cooperation in key areas and expressed their readiness to further develop productive ties across various sectors. It was noted that the joint efforts to realize the existing potential would soon bring a new qualitative dimension to Turkmen-Afghan trade and economic cooperation, significantly increasing mutual trade turnover and diversifying its structure and scale.
