The President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, congratulated his compatriots on Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945.

"Dear compatriots! Respected war veterans! From the bottom of my heart, I congratulate you on the 79th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945!" states the address of the head of the state, published today in our country's central media.

"1941–1945 were the most ruthless and simultaneously the most mournful period in world history, when an aggressive and plundering war took the lives of millions of people and led to irreplaceable losses, leaving unhealed wounds. From the very start of that merciless war, which lasted 1418 days, our compatriots voluntarily went to the front, where they fought side by side with brotherly nations on the fields of brutal combat, displaying exemplary bravery and courage. For this, they were awarded many orders and medals. The names of our warriors, who laid down their lives in the bloody war, and those who returned home with Victory, are recorded in the multi-volume editions 'Hatyra' and 'Shohrat'," the President noted.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov reminded that Turkmen women and girls without hesitation donated 7392 kilograms of gold and silver jewelry to the Defense Fund.

"The memories of the martial valor of our brave ancestors, the labor achievements of our compatriots are forever inscribed in golden letters in the chronicle of the Homeland. We are immensely proud of our heroes, courageous ancestors who fought for peace on Earth, a tranquil sky, and a happy life for descendants, as well as of our compatriots whose selfless labor brought closer the Great Victory. Eternal glory to them!" emphasized Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

The President noted that "on the occasion of the Victory Day celebration, thematic musical-song and cultural-mass events are held across the country, and veterans of the war are ceremoniously presented with festive gifts".

"In this way, we show boundless gratitude and respect to our heroes who gave their lives for freedom on the fields of the war of 1941–1945, as well as to our compatriots who with dignity overcame severe hardships and became examples of selfless service to the Homeland, the people, and humanity," states the address of the head of the state.

On the eve of May 8, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov departed on a working visit to the Russian Federation, where, at the invitation of Vladimir Putin, he will participate as an honorary guest in the celebrations marking the 79th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941 – 1945.
