Prospects for developing scientific and educational cooperation and for expanding cooperation in the field of hydrogen energy were discussed during a visit to Japan by a delegation from Turkmenistan, led by the Rector of Yagshygeldi Kakayev International Oil and Gas University, the International Information Center (IIC) of Turkmenistan reported on October 19.
As part of the visit, the delegation met with the President of the University of Tsukuba Keisuke Nagata. The parties discussed the prospects for joint scientific research, the training of specialists and the development of innovative technologies for producing hydrogen from natural gas. This cooperation is based on a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan and the University of Tsukuba on April 7, 2025, on the eve of the President of Turkmenistan’s visit to Japan.
The Turkmen delegation also held meetings with representatives from the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, part of Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), and the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).
Furthermore, a visit to the Chiyoda Kiyasu Research Park took place. The delegation was also acquainted with the activities of the Hydrogen-Bond Research Center (HBRC) and the Tsukuba Interdisciplinary Research Institute (TIAR) under the University of Tsukuba.
Special attention was given to professional development: three teachers from Turkmen higher education institutions are currently undertaking an internship at the University of Tsukuba as part of the SDGs Global Leader Program, supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
This visit marks another step in implementing the initiative of the Hero-Arkadag to strengthen the partnerships between Turkmenistan and Japan in the spheres of science, education and innovative technologies, creating new opportunities for joint research and the advancement of hydrogen energy.
