Turkmenistan is interested in strengthening its partnerships with the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) across the trade, economic, energy, transport, communication and humanitarian spheres. This was stated by the Turkmen delegation during the 52nd meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, held in Baghdad on October 17–18, according to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The meeting addressed pressing international and regional issues, the strengthening of peace and security and the expansion of political, trade, economic, and humanitarian cooperation among the organization’s member states.
During the meeting, the Turkmen delegation outlined its priority areas for cooperation with the OIC. Special attention was paid to Turkmenistan’s foreign-policy initiatives aimed at fostering international trust, promoting dialogue and preventive diplomacy and ensuring the supremacy of international law.
In this context, the significance of the proposal, initiated by Turkmenistan, to declare 2028 as the Year of International Law, which had received the support of the UN General Assembly, was highlighted.
Discussions also touched upon expanding cooperation in the fields of education, science, and culture. Notably, it was mentioned that in 2026, Turkmenistan had been granted observer status within the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), opening new prospects for collaboration in these sectors.
A key outcome of the meeting was the adoption, on the initiative of Turkmenistan, of a resolution entitled “The Role of a Policy of Neutrality in Maintaining and Strengthening International Peace, Security and Sustainable Development within the OIC Region and Globally.”
The support for the resolution by the Organization’s member states confirms the international recognition of the significance of a policy of neutrality as an effective tool for strengthening peace, security and sustainable development, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan notes.
