On October 1, a practical meeting dedicated to reviewing international standards and norms for reducing methane emissions was held at the Natural Gas Research Institute of the "Turkmengaz" State Concern. This was reported by the Press Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The event was organized with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan within the framework of the project "European Union (EU) for Green Development in Turkmenistan: Policy Dialogue and Climate Action for 2024–2029", co-funded by the European Union and the Federal Foreign Office of Germany. The project is implemented by GIZ.
The consultations were attended by legal and technical experts from the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, relevant government agencies, as well as the "Turkmengaz" and "Turkmennebit" state concerns.
During the meeting, an extensive exchange of views took place on aligning the country's regulatory and legal framework with modern international best practices, including the EU Regulation on methane emissions reduction in the energy sector. Taking into account national development priorities, the experts developed analytical approaches and recommendations for improving relevant legislation. The event served to lay a reliable methodological foundation for adapting leading global practices to the national conditions of Turkmenistan.
