A meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) took place in the Avaza national tourism zone on October 9, according to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The meeting was attended by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev.
For the first time, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian participated in the meeting as a special guest.
As noted, Turkmenistan holds the chairmanship of the Commonwealth this year. The country, which is celebrating the 35th anniversary of its independence this year, is carrying out this important mission with a strong sense of responsibility. To this end, a corresponding Conception was developed, covering key areas of interstate cooperation.
Turkmenistan is actively working to promote initiatives aimed at expanding cooperation in the trade and economic spheres. Particular attention is being paid to innovative collaboration and the development of transport connectivity. The core message is that the creation of an extensive, secure international transport infrastructure is an essential factor for universal sustainable development.
At this meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State, the parties discussed key issues regarding cooperation in the political and diplomatic, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian fields. Significant decisions were adopted following the meeting.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes the symbolic significance of the decision adopted at this meeting, held in Turkmenistan, to declare 2029 the Year of Transport Connectivity within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
Turkmenistan consistently advocates for the development of transport and logistics systems, viewing this as a fundamental factor for economic growth, regional integration and the expansion of trade ties, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
