During a friendly visit to China on March 18, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov discussed cooperation in the gas sector with Dai Houliang, Chairman of the Board of Directors of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), TDH reports.
As Hero-Arkadag noted, Turkmenistan, implementing its "open door" policy, attaches particular importance to developing friendly relations with China. Thanks to the efforts of the President of Turkmenistan and the President of China, effective interstate cooperation based on the principles of equality, mutual understanding, and trust is currently being given new meaning.
During the meeting, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov confirmed his intention to further develop his partnership with CNPC in the oil and gas sector. Noting that 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of Turkmenistan's cooperation with CNPC, Hero-Arkadag proposed holding an international scientific and practical conference to mark this significant date.
As emphasized, the Turkmen-Chinese partnership in the oil and gas sector is a clear example of effective interstate relations. This collaboration has resulted in the implementation of a joint project to build a gas pipeline supplying Turkmen gas to China.
In this context, the importance of the agreements reached on the next stage of development of the Galkynysh field was noted. The phased development of this field has created thousands of new jobs.
Speaking about regional projects, Hero-Arkadag emphasized the strategic importance of the Serhetabat-Herat section, known as "Arkadagyň ak ýoly," which is a key part of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) transnational gas pipeline project. During the meeting, the head of CNPC expressed gratitude to the leadership of Turkmenistan for creating favorable investment conditions in a country with one of the world's largest natural gas reserves.
Dai Houliang confirmed his willingness to further develop cooperation with Turkmenistan in the fuel and energy sector, assuring that his corporation will responsibly fulfill its partnership obligations.
