Turkmenistan and India plan to develop trade and economic ties

Turkmenistan Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and Indian Secretary for Western Affairs Sibi George emphasized the importance of mutual meetings and visits at the highest political level, according to a January 21 posting on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

"During the meeting, the parties discussed current issues of bilateral relations in the political, trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian spheres. They emphasized the importance of mutual meetings and visits at the highest political level to develop Turkmen-Indian ties both bilaterally and within regional and international structures," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

"The diplomats confirmed their interest in strengthening the dialogue between the foreign ministries of the two countries. In this context, the possibility of organizing a meeting between the foreign ministers of Turkmenistan and India in the near future was discussed," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The importance of developing trade and economic ties between the two countries was particularly emphasized. In this context, preparations for the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Indian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technological Cooperation were discussed.

On the same day, political consultations were held between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and India, during which a wide range of issues across the entire spectrum of cooperation in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, scientific, educational, cultural, and humanitarian spheres were discussed.

The parties discussed in detail current and future projects in energy, transport, and agriculture.
