The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov announced an initiative to develop an Energy Code under the auspices of the UN, which would reject the politicization of relations in the energy sector.
The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty made this statement while addressing students and teachers during a general lesson at the Ruhyýet Palace in Arkadag on September 2, TDH reports.
“At the Energy Forum held in Vienna in April of this year, Turkmenistan called for the complete and guaranteed depoliticization of the energy sector. In this regard, our country proposes considering the development of an Energy Code under the auspices of the United Nations, which would reject the politicization of relations in the sphere of energy,” Hero Arkadag said.
"Thus, Turkmenistan calls for free, stable and equal access to energy resources: this is the natural and legitimate right of every people and state,” the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty noted.
“A key factor in the successful implementation of comprehensive cooperation plans is tapping into the energy potential of the countries of the continent as producers, consumers and transit countries,” Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.
“Turkmenistan’s strategy in this area is based on fully considering the interests of participants in all three areas, diversifying supply routes and ensuring equal access to oil and gas resources and electricity sources,” Hero Arkadag emphasized.
The head of the Halk Maslahaty noted that “the construction of the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India gas pipeline is currently underway. Once completed, the pipeline will be able to meet the needs of the two subcontinents, which have a combined population of approximately 2 billion and rapidly developing economies for decades to come. The project will create over 12,000 jobs in Afghanistan alone.”
“Furthermore, our country has the necessary capacity to increase electricity supplies as part of the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan project,” Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.
