Following a meeting between the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Toshimitsu Motegi, confidence was expressed in the further strengthening of the interstate cooperation, the Neytralny Turkmenistan Newspaper reported on August 31.
As the Head of Turkmenistan noted, our country attaches particular importance to the further development of relations with Japan in the Asia-Pacific region. This partnership is of long-term and strategic character, and the interstate dialogue is developing based on the principles of equality, mutual respect and trust.
The President of Turkmenistan also emphasized the successful cooperation within the Central Asia–Japan Dialogue, which has served as an effective mechanism for coordinating actions in the region for many years. In this regard, Serdar Berdimuhamedov recalled that in 2025 he had made a working visit to Japan to participate in the first summit of the Central Asia–Japan Dialogue, during which high-level talks were held and important agreements were reached.
The President of Turkmenistan emphasized that trade and economic cooperation are a priority area of the bilateral partnership. The Turkmen-Japanese Committee on Economic Cooperation plays a major role in its development.
Noting that Turkmenistan has accumulated many years of experience in the gas and chemical industries with major Japanese companies such as Itochu Corporation, Toyo Engineering Corporation and Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd., which participated in the construction of major industrial facilities in the country, the President emphasized the availability of extensive opportunities for Japanese companies in these areas.
In turn, Toshimitsu Motegi noted that Japan attaches great importance to developing mutually beneficial relations with Turkmenistan, viewing it as a reliable partner. Taking the opportunity, the diplomat conveyed warm greetings from the Emperor of Japan Naruhito and Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the Hero-Arkadag.
At the end of the meeting, the interlocutors expressed confidence in the further strengthening of productive interstate cooperation.
