Turkmenistan's Fuel and Energy Complex: Development Priorities for the Four Months

In Ashgabat, the oil and gas sector's performance for the first four months of this year was analyzed and key objectives for the implementation of large-scale energy projects were identified.
On May 5, a reporting meeting was held at the Central Building of the Oil and Gas Complex of Turkmenistan to discuss the sector's performance for the first four months of 2026, held under the motto "Independent, Neutral Turkmenistan – Homeland of Purposeful Winged Steeds." Participants discussed in detail the implementation of the instructions set by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov at the Cabinet of Ministers meeting on May 1 and also considered specific mechanisms for the further development of the country's energy potential.
Opening the meeting, Vice-Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Guvanch Agajanov emphasized that, thanks to the comprehensive support of the head of state, the industry is consistently modernizing its material and technical base and systematically improving production processes. In this regard, the Vice-Chairman emphasized the importance of effectively achieving the strategic goals of the domestic fuel and energy sector.
During the meeting, reports on the work accomplished during the reporting period were presented by Guvanch Agajanov, Chairman of the State Concern Turkmennebit; Maksat Babayev, State Minister and Chairman of the State Concern Turkmengas; Gurbangeldy Garlyev, Head of the State Corporation Turkmengeology; and heads of relevant associations and enterprises.
Particular attention was paid to the development of the Galkynysh field, the construction of the Serhetabat-Herat (Arkadagyň ak ýoly) gas pipeline, and the uninterrupted operation of production facilities. Discussions also included intensifying geological exploration using digital technologies, exploring new promising hydrocarbon deposits, and expanding international cooperation.
Vice-Chairman Guvanch Agajanov emphasized the need for continuous monitoring of major investment projects and the introduction of innovative technologies into the fuel and energy sector. The importance of flawless execution of production and development plans, as well as the organization of efficient operations taking into account seasonal weather conditions, was emphasized. The importance of proper preparation for the summer holiday season at industry-affiliated health centers was particularly emphasized.
Concluding the meeting, the Vice-Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers outlined the priority tasks facing the State Concern Turkmengas, the State Concern Turkmennebit, and the State Corporation Turkmengeology. The Vice-Chairman wished industry workers new achievements in implementing the ambitious plans for the development of the oil and gas industry set by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
