Turkmenistan is participating in the anniversary summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum in Moscow

The 8th Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) is taking place in Moscow, marking a milestone 25th anniversary for this key international energy organization.

Turkmenistan, which has the world’s fourth-largest proven natural gas resources, is participating in this high-level forum as a special guest. The event underscores the country’s strengthening status as a vital guarantor of energy security on the Eurasian continent.

As noted by Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the President of the Russian Federation, the GECF’s coordination mechanism plays a strategic role amid the ongoing transformation of global energy markets.

The scale of the organization is reflected by global indicators: the GECF member states account for about 70% of the world’s proven natural gas resources, 38% of global gas production and about 42% of international pipeline trade. Ahead of the Summit, the 28th GECF Ministerial Meeting was held, during which the organization’s Secretary General Mohamed Hamel presented a long-term outlook for the industry’s development.

According to these projections, global gas demand will exceed 5.3 trillion cubic meters by 2050, with the share of liquefied natural gas in international trade rising to 64% – a shift that necessitates systematic investment in production and technological cooperation.

The participation of a delegation from Turkmenistan in the Moscow Summit reaffirms Ashgabat’s growing role as a reliable supplier of environmentally clean energy resources and an advocate for a depoliticized energy dialogue. The country consistently supports the diversification of international gas routes, the development of flexible pipeline infrastructure and the introduction of advanced eco-friendly technologies.

Following the 8th GECF Summit, the adoption of a final Moscow Declaration is planned; it will focus on enhancing the predictability of gas markets, developing new export and transport corridors and ensuring global sustainable development, the International Information Centre of Turkmenistan reports.
