Priority issues of the Turkmen-Russian cooperation were discussed during a telephone conversation, which took place on Monday between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
The leaders of the two countries noted with satisfaction the friendly and constructive nature of the interstate dialogue built on the principles of strategic partnership.
During the conversation, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Vladimir Putin discussed priority issues of bilateral partnership in the context of agreements reached at the highest level, which has great potential for building mutually beneficial relations in various fields, as well as taking into account the chairmanship of Turkmenistan in the CIS. Moreover, the development of productive cooperation on a long-term basis is facilitated by a solid regulatory framework covering the entire range of inter-state relations.
Among the key areas of bilateral cooperation are the trade and economic sphere, the fuel and energy complex and the transport and communication sector, which are among the basic segments of the world economy. It was noted that in the practical implementation of the planned plans of the Turkmen-Russian cooperation an effective role is given to the joint intergovernmental Commission, the next meeting of which was held in may this year in Ashgabat.
As noted, business relations between Turkmenistan and the largest regions and subjects of the Russian Federation are steadily developing. The forthcoming visit of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation is intended to contribute to their further activation.
A good example of successful partnership relations is the effective work of leading Russian companies in Turkmenistan.
During the conversation, the Presidents exchanged views on a number of topical issues on the regional and global agenda, primarily those related to ensuring universal peace, security and sustainable development. At the same time, the intention of Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation to further strengthen cooperation within the framework of the United Nations and other authoritative international structures, including the CIS, was confirmed.
The topic of cooperation in the Caspian sea, where the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian sea, signed following the V Summit of the heads of the Caspian States, held in 2018, is of particular importance, was also the subject of interested discussion. In this regard, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited his Russian counterpart to take part in the upcoming First Caspian economic forum, designed to promote regional and interregional cooperation that meets the goals of General well-being.
At the end of the conversation, the sides expressed confidence that the traditional Turkmen-Russian relations will continue to have a spirit of friendship, trust and constructiveness.
