Speaking at an enlarged composition of the CIS Council of Heads of Government, the President of Turkmenistan noted the relevance of the participation of the Commonwealth states in the implementation of multilateral projects in the energy sector.
First of all, we are talking about long-term energy supplies to the regions adjacent to the CIS in the east and south directions - China, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India.
A number of countries of the Commonwealth are among the largest producers and suppliers of hydrocarbons in Eurasia, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said. A powerful resource base, transit advantages make it possible to implement large-scale, in many ways unique projects for the delivery of energy to international markets. A vivid example of this is the construction of a gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to China, part of which was laid through the territories of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
The same can be said about the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project, which is already in full swing, the head of state said, noting that this project opens up prospects for interested CIS countries to participate in it. We can talk about the construction of related infrastructure, services, supplies of equipment and equipment necessary for the implementation of the project.
The head of Turkmenistan expressed his conviction that, in the context of diversifying energy flows, the states of the Commonwealth have every opportunity to realize their potential.
The President also noted real prospects for joining large continental integration structures to this work, which include the CIS countries, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Eurasian Economic Community.
