The preparation of the visit of the President of the Republic of Korea to Turkmenistan was discussed in the course of political consultations at the level of deputy foreign ministers of the two countries, which took place the day before at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The South Korean delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign minister Yoon Sun-Gu, who arrived in Ashgabat on a working visit.
As was especially noted during the meeting, the main factor in the development of bilateral relations is mutual visits of the heads of state. In this regard, the Korean side noted that the development of relations with Turkmenistan is one of the priorities of the foreign policy of the President of the Republic of Korea, which intends to visit Turkmenistan in the coming month.
In this context, the parties discussed issues related to the preparation for this visit. In particular, the draft documents to be signed during the upcoming visit were reviewed. Also discussed organizational and protocol aspects of the visit.
During the talks, the possibilities of further developing the activities of Korean companies in Turkmenistan, which are actively involved in projects for the construction and modernization of oil refining and gas chemical complexes in our country, were also discussed. In this regard, the successful meeting of the Turkmen-Korean Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation in early 2019 was noted
The sides also stressed positive steps in the development of cultural and humanitarian cooperation, in particular, noted the preparation for the introduction of programs for teaching Korean in secondary schools in Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, a high level of relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea in the political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres was noted.
During the visit, Yoon Sun-Gu was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. During the talks, the parties discussed a number of topical issues of mutual interest.
