Turkey and Turkmenistan discussed issues related to the project of construction of the Trans -Caspian gas pipeline. This was stated by the Turkish foreign minister Mevlut Cavushoglu, who visited Ashgabat last week with a two-day visit, reports news Agency ORIENT.
According to the head of the Turkish foreign ministry, during the meeting with his Turkmen counterpart Rashid Meredov, issues of Turkmen gas supply via the Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline (TANAP) to the world markets were discussed. It was commissioned on June 12, 2018. The gas pipeline will transport natural gas from Azerbaijan to Turkey and later via the TAP gas pipeline to southern Europe. The first deliveries are expected in 2020.
To connect Turkmenistan to these pipelines, it is necessary to build a Trans-Caspian gas pipeline connecting the Turkmen and Azerbaijani coasts. Turkey is a consistent supporter of the implementation of the southern gas corridor project with the connection of Turkmenistan to it through the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline.
