The Turkmen leader got acquainted with the unique technology of gas-chemical complex in Kiyanly

At the opening ceremony of the gas chemical complex in Kiyanly for the production of polyethylene and polypropylene, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov started production at the push of a button and got acquainted with the unique technologies introduced at the plant.

Major investment projects worth over 3.4 billion US dollars implemented by the State concern "Turkmengas" jointly with the companies "LG International Corp", "Hyundai Engineering" (Republic of Korea) and "TOYO Engineering Corporation" (Japan). The contract was signed during Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s official visit to Japan in 2013.

The production capacity of the new HCK is designed to process 5 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year and produce 381 thousand tons of high-density polyethylene, 81 thousand tons of polypropylene, as well as receive up to 4.5 billion cubic meters of commercial gas, which is planned to be sent to gas pipeline systems for use as fuel.

The plant is equipped with equipment manufactured in Japan, the Republic of Korea, USA, UK, Belgium, Germany, Denmark and other European countries. It consists of four main process units: gas separation, refining, ethane, polyethylene, and polypropylene. Technological processes are automated and subject to centralized management.

Advanced engineering solutions are also involved in the installation of auxiliary systems – sea water intake and demineralization, utilization, purification and reuse of industrial water, steam, air and nitrogen production, fire safety, etc. The Complex is continuously supplied with electricity from the gas turbine generator. Warehouses for storage of chemical reagents and finished polymer products were built.

Production of polymers for GCC in Kiyanly is carried out on the basis of modern technologies, providing deep purification of raw materials from all kinds of impurities by unique schemes. In particular, the installation of gas separation technology is used COREFLUX™, which provides effective extraction of natural gas, methane, ethane, and is widely used around the world technology for purification of raw materials from the so-called "acid gases" and mercury impurities. The ethane plant is designed to process 685 thousand tons of hydrocarbons per year.

The plant has mastered the production of new products for Turkmenistan – high-density polyethylene produced by the ethylene polymerization reaction at low pressure. It uses technology Innovene™S, which is one of the three most common in the world oil and gas chemical industry. The license is granted "INEOS Technologies" (UK) – one of the largest international corporations, which includes chemical plants acquired from BP, ICI and BASF. By the way, this is the first Innovene™S license from "INEOS Technologies" in Central Asia.

It is noteworthy that the HCK project in Kiyanly was awarded the TXF (UK) as one of the ten best projects in Europe and Eurasia in 2014, funded by export credit agencies. The total amount of loan agreements signed between the State Bank for foreign economic Affairs of Turkmenistan with the Japan Bank for international cooperation, the Export-import Bank of Korea and the syndicate of financial institutions of Japan, Germany, France, Korea, China, Italy, Austria and Switzerland participating in the financing of this project amounts to over 2.5 billion US dollars.
