The issues of expanding the bilateral partnership were discussed at the 14th meeting of the joint Turkmen-Uzbek Commission on trade-economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation, held on March 1-2, 2018 in Tashkent. As it is reported on the website of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the delegation of Turkmenistan headed by vice-chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan B. Annameredov took part in the work of the Commission. The meeting was also attended by heads and representatives of the ministries and agencies of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the current state and prospects of expanding bilateral trade and economic cooperation within the framework of the agreement between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan on economic cooperation for 2018-2020.
Noting the development of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of transit and transport, the parties emphasized the importance of practical implementation of the agreements on the development of the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman transport corridor. The opening of Turkmenabat-Farap road and railway bridges was also highly appreciated, as their use would increase the transit potential of the two countries and create favorable conditions for increasing the volume of goods transported through the Trans-Caucasian transport corridor.
The sides also reaffirmed their commitment to deepening and strengthening bilateral cooperation in the spheres of culture, science, art, sports and other fields.
Also, within the framework of the Commission's work, bilateral meetings between the heads of ministries and agencies of the two States were held. Following the results of work of the Commission the Protocol was signed.
During the visit, the delegation of Turkmenistan was received by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. During the meeting, the parties discussed the expansion of cooperation in the political, diplomatic, energy and transport spheres, the development of relations in the trade and economic sphere and the strengthening of cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere, in particular in the fields of education, sports and tourism. They also exchanged views on the possibilities of establishing direct contacts between the business structures of the two countries and organizing joint events.
Prospects for further development and strengthening of bilateral relations were discussed at the meeting with Minister of foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov. Special attention was paid to the interaction within the framework of international organizations and structures.
During the talks, the sides exchanged views on a number of major regional and international policy issues of mutual interest. In order to ensure mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation, the need to strengthen the legal framework was emphasized.
During the visit, the Turkmen delegation visited the Tashkent plant of agricultural machinery and the Tashkent plant for repair of railway passenger cars, laid flowers at the monument to the first President of Uzbekistan.
