A new international airport in Turkmenabat is listed in the Guinness Record’s Book was put into operation

During the working trip to Lebap region, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in the opening of the international airport built in the administrative center of the district yesterday.

During the ceremony, the official representative of the Guinness book of records, Sheid Subashi-Gemiji, announced that the new airport in Turkmenabat is registered in this edition as an architectural structure with a unique feature – the roof of its passenger terminal has the shape of a huge star.

- Such a magnificent architectural solution is a unique difference of the airport, which has no analogues in the world. And we believe that it is worthy to take an honorable place in the Guinness book of records, - said the guest.

In this regard, the head of the Service "Türkmenhowaýollary" D. Saburov was awarded a certificate of Guinness book of records, officially confirming the uniqueness of the architectural embodiment of the passenger terminal of Turkmenabat airport. In addition, the management of the Service was awarded a certificate from the Munich international airport, confirming the high assessment of the functionality of all systems of the new airport.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that forming a modern transport and logistics infrastructure, actively participating in the consolidation of peace in the world and the development of partnership, Turkmenistan revives the great silk road, which once passed through the ancient Turkmen land and United States and peoples of the East and West.

Turkmenabat airport, which has replenished the list of international air harbors of the country, will also become an important link in the system of transport communications that unite Asia and Europe, the Head of State noted.

During the ceremony, the audience watched the landing of the first in the history of the new airport aircraft: Boeing 777-200LR, Boeing 757-200 and Boeing 737-800 aircraft belonging to joint-stock company of open type "Turkmenistan awiakompaniyasy". Further one after another at the airport of Turkmenabat landed the aircraft of foreign companies: ATP GP AN-124 Ukrainian state enterprise "Antonov", the Boeing 747-400 Slovak airlines Air Cargo Global Boeing 737 Tajik airlines "SOMON AIR", A-320 of airline of the UAE "AIR Arabia".

The capacity of the airport complex, built by a business entity "Gundogdu", - 500 passengers per hour. The new runway with a length of 3,800 meters and a width of 65 meters is equipped with modern light and weather systems, a landing system for the second category of ICAO, which allows you to serve all types of aircraft. The airport's cargo terminal is designed to handle 200,000 tons of cargo per year. Four telescopic ladders will provide direct access of air passengers from the storage devices to the aircraft salons.

This is the third international class airport built within the framework of the "national program for the development of civil aviation of Turkmenistan for 2012-2030". In September 2016, a new international airport in Ashgabat with a capacity of 1,600 passengers per hour was opened. In April 2010, a new terminal was opened in the city of Turkmenbashi in the West of the country with a capacity of 800 passengers per hour. The runways at these airports also serve all types of aircraft.
